De 2024-editie van de Macau Grand Prix voor GT-wagens werd verreden op het uitdagende stratencircuit van Guia. In de BMW M4 GT3 met startnummer 32 verscheen Dries Vanthoor aan de start voor het Belgische Team WRT. Het team van Vincent Vosse behoort al jaren tot de top in het GT3-veld en trad in Macau aan met een sterke line-up. Vanthoor, geboren in 1998, heeft ruime ervaring op straatcircuits en keerde terug naar Macau met het doel een overwinning toe te voegen aan zijn palmares.
De BMW M4 GT3 wordt aangedreven door een 3,0-liter zes-in-lijn turbomotor en beschikt over geavanceerde aerodynamica en tractiecontrole. Vanthoor kwalificeerde zich op de eerste rij naast regerend kampioen Raffaele Marciello. Tijdens de kwalificatierace hield Vanthoor lang stand aan de kop, maar moest uiteindelijk genoegen nemen met een tweede plaats op slechts enkele tienden. De auto van Team WRT toonde zich uitstekend uitgebalanceerd in de langzame bochten van het stratencircuit.
In de hoofdrace kende Vanthoor minder geluk. Bij het aanremmen voor Lisboa werd hij geraakt door een concurrent en moest hij vroegtijdig opgeven. Daarmee eindigde zijn weekend zonder podiumplaats, ondanks het sterke optreden tijdens de trainingen en kwalificaties. Team WRT toonde zich wederom competitief, maar de smalle straten van Macau laten geen ruimte voor fouten.
