De Jaguar C-Type met startnummer 18 nam in 1953 deel aan de 24 uur van Le Mans. De auto werd bestuurd door de Britse coureurs Tony Rolt en Duncan Hamilton en ingeschreven door het fabriekswerksteam van Jaguar. Deze editie van Le Mans zou de geschiedenis ingaan als een mijlpaal, mede dankzij de innovatieve technologie die Jaguar toepaste, waaronder het gebruik van schijfremmen.
De C-Type werd aangedreven door een 3,4-liter zescilinder-in-lijn motor met dubbele bovenliggende nokkenassen. Deze motor leverde ongeveer 220 pk, waarmee een topsnelheid van ruim 250 km/u haalbaar was. De lichtgewicht carrosserie was opgebouwd uit aluminium en gemonteerd op een buizenchassis, ontworpen met focus op aerodynamica en betrouwbaarheid. Dit zorgde voor een optimale balans tussen snelheid en uithoudingsvermogen.
Tijdens de race van 1953 reed de #18 een vrijwel foutloze wedstrijd. De auto met startnummer 18 wist uiteindelijk als eerste over de finish te komen en won de race met een afstand van meer dan 100 kilometer op de nummer twee.
Deze overwinning betekende de eerste Le Mans-zege voor Jaguar. De C-Type #18 staat sindsdien symbool voor het begin van Jaguar's dominante aanwezigheid in de endurance-racerij van de jaren vijftig.
