Zhou Guanyu stapte tijdens de testdagen in Barcelona voor het eerst uitgebreid in de Cadillac MAC-26 als officiële reserverijder van het nieuwe Cadillac Formula 1 Team. Voor de Chinese coureur draaide de sessie niet om snelle rondetijden, maar om het verzamelen van gegevens voor de ontwikkeling van de volledig nieuwe Formule 1-auto volgens het technische reglement van 2026.
De besloten test op het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya bood de teams de mogelijkheid om de betrouwbaarheid van de nieuwe auto's, de Ferrari-krachtbron en de aangepaste aerodynamica te evalueren. Zhou werkte daarbij nauw samen met de engineers en leverde feedback over de afstelling, de balans van de auto en de werking van de nieuwe systemen. Voor een debuterend team als Cadillac waren dergelijke kilometers van grote waarde om de basis voor het eerste Grand Prix-seizoen te leggen.
Tijdens de Barcelona-test reed Cadillac bewust zonder sponsors en in een sobere zwarte testkleurstelling met een wit teamlogo. De nadruk lag volledig op de techniek en het verzamelen van data, niet op presentatie. De auto verscheen bovendien met meetapparatuur en sensoren die tijdens officiële Grand Prix-weekenden niet zichtbaar zijn, zodat de engineers de luchtstromen en prestaties van de nieuwe auto konden analyseren.
Voor Zhou betekende de testsessie meer dan alleen rijtijd. Na drie seizoenen als vaste Formule 1-coureur kreeg hij een belangrijke rol binnen de ontwikkeling van Cadillac. Zijn ervaring met de huidige generatie Formule 1-auto's maakte hem een waardevolle schakel tussen de simulator en de baan, terwijl het team zich voorbereidde op zijn debuut in het wereldkampioenschap.
