De Cougar C22 Porsche met startnummer 30 was een van de opvallende Franse Group C1-inschrijvingen voor de 24 uur van Le Mans 1988, verreden op 11 en 12 juni. Courage Compétition zette de auto in met François Migault, Paul Belmondo en Ukyo Katayama, als onderdeel van een ambitieus programma waarin het team meerdere Cougars aan de start bracht. In een jaar waarin de strijd in de top scherp was en de marges klein bleven, moest de C22 vooral laten zien dat het nieuwe concept een etmaal kon doorstaan.
De C22 was purpose-built rond een Porsche zescilinder boxer met turbo, in de 2,8-liter categorie, bekend als de 935/79-variant. Het pakket combineerde een gesloten carrosserie met een focus op efficiënte topsnelheid en stabiele bedrijfstemperaturen over lange stints, precies de eigenschappen die op het Circuit de la Sarthe het verschil maken. In vergelijking met de eerdere Courage-ontwerpen was het doel een lichter en scherper totaalconcept, passend bij het tempo in de Group C1-klasse van eind jaren tachtig.
Voor startnummer 30 bleef de race echter korter dan gepland. De auto viel in de vijfde wedstrijduur uit na een ongeval in het gedeelte dat bekendstaat als “Karting”, waardoor een echte duurtest uitbleef. Daarmee werd de Le Mans-inzet van de #30 in 1988 vooral een momentopname van een nieuw prototype dat het potentieel moest tonen, maar door omstandigheden geen kans kreeg om zijn betrouwbaarheid over 24 uur te bewijzen.
