De Honda RA300 met startnummer 14 verscheen tijdens de Grand Prix van Italië in 1967 aan de start met John Surtees achter het stuur. Deze race, verreden op het Autodromo Nazionale Monza, betekende de eerste en enige overwinning van dit specifieke model. Het team, Honda Racing, had de RA300 slechts kort voor de race geïntroduceerd, ontwikkeld in samenwerking met het Britse Lola. De combinatie van Honda's motor en het lichte chassis van Lola bleek direct competitief.
De wagen werd aangedreven door een 3,0-liter V12-motor, die ruim 400 pk leverde en zich onderscheidde door zijn brede vermogensafgifte en betrouwbaarheid.
