De indrukwekkende overwinning van de Cadillac #01 bij de Petit Le Mans 2024 op Road Atlanta was een schoolvoorbeeld van doorzettingsvermogen en teamstrategie. Onder vlag van Cadillac Racing (Chip Ganassi Racing) wisselden Sébastien Bourdais, Renger van der Zande en Scott Dixon elkaar af in de cockpit van de Cadillac V-Series.R. Ondanks twee pitlane drive-throughs en een extra mechanische stop wegens een sensorprobleem, brachten ze de auto terug in de strijd.
Na een rustperiode van groene vlaggen herwonnen ze hun positie, mede dankzij slimme banden- en tankstrategieën. Met ongeveer 30 minuten te gaan wist Van der Zande een gewaagde inhaalactie op Nick Tandy’s Porsche 963 in Turn 1 te voltooien, waarna hij de leiding vasthield tot de finish en de overwinning binnenhaalde met een marge van 2,948 seconden.
Technisch gezien was de V-Series.R een toonbeeld van betrouwbaarheid. De Cadillac LMC55R V8-motor presteerde op topniveau en onderstreepte Cadillac Racing’s tactisch inzicht en veerkracht, wat hen hun vijfde overwinning bij Petit Le Mans opleverde sinds hun IMSA-debuut in 2017.
Het succes was niet alleen rijderwerk: Chip Ganassi Racing’s strategen, engineers en pitcrew vormden de ruggengraat van deze comeback. Bourdais startte, Dixon nam het middenstuk voor zijn rekening en Van der Zande maakte het klusje af. Samen belichamen zij ervaring, lef en precisie, perfect afgestemd binnen het team.
