Yuki Tsunoda reed in Montreal zijn eerste Canadese Grand Prix voor Red Bull Racing naast teamgenoot Max Verstappen. Hij had in kwalificatie P11 behaald maar kreeg een gridstraf van tien plaatsen vanwege het inhalen onder rode vlag in FP3, waardoor hij uiteindelijk vanaf de laatste positie startte.
In de race zelf bleef Tsunoda buiten de top tien en finishte hij uiteindelijk als twaalfde, een ronde achter winnaar George Russell en zijn teamgenoot Verstappen, die tweede werd. Het was zijn twaalfde race voor Red Bull en zijn tweede puntloze wedstrijd sinds zijn promotie naar het hoofdraceteam. Hij heeft nog steeds moeite met de RB21, een auto waarvan technische problemen met kerberijden en balans vragen oproepen binnen het team.
Tsunoda erkent dat hij onder druk staat: sinds zijn promotie behaalde hij geen punten in de laatste zes races, en hij heeft slechts zeven punten gescoord als Red Bull-rijder tegenover veel meer van Verstappen. De Grand Prix in Canada was een testmoment voor Tsunoda en zijn RB21, ondanks upgrades en een streep naar voren vanaf de achterste startpositie, bleef hij buiten de punten. De balansproblemen van de auto, zijn strenge gridstraf en de sterke prestaties van teamgenoten maakten duidelijk dat hij nog niet gevonden heeft wat Red Bull van een topteam rijder verwacht.
