De Porsche 911 GT2 met startnummer 66 verscheen in de 24 uur van Le Mans 1999 onder de naam Estoril Racing Communication, met Manuel Monteiro, Michel Monteiro en Michel Maisonneuve als rijders. De editie van 12 en 13 juni 1999 werd overall gewonnen door de BMW V12 LMR van Yannick Dalmas, Pierluigi Martini en Joachim Winkelhock, maar voor de #66 draaide de wedstrijd vooral om het overleven in een druk GT-veld waarin verkeer met prototypes het ritme voortdurend verstoorde.

De auto was een 993 GT2 R met een 3,6-liter zescilinder boxer met twin-turbo (Porsche M64/81) en achterin geplaatste aandrijving. Dat pakket was gemaakt voor lange stints met hoge kruissnelheid, waarbij koeling en oliecircuit onder zware belasting bepalend zijn. In Le Mans betekende dat een constante balans tussen tempo en mechanische marge, zeker wanneer de race zich ontwikkelt tot een aaneenschakeling van snelle passages door verkeer.

Voor startnummer 66 kwam de ommekeer in de twaalfde wedstrijduur, na een aanvaring met de Toyota #2 bij de Dunlop-chicane. Door schade aan de radiateur en het smeersysteem werd doorrijden onmogelijk. De 911 GT2 werd daardoor als uitvaller genoteerd met 123 ronden, op het moment dat het echte nachtelijke deel al achter de rug was en het tempo juist weer omhoog ging.

De uitval onderstreept het karakter van Le Mans 1999: ook in de GT-categorie kon één incident een zorgvuldig opgebouwde race in één klap beëindigen. Voor de #66 bleef het bij een wedstrijd waarin het ritme lang genoeg standhield om competitief te blijven, maar waarin een contactmoment op een kritisch punt van het circuit de doorslag gaf.
