Citroën Racing verscheen in 2025 voor het eerst op de Formula E-grid en maakte zijn debuut in Season 12 (2025/26). Auto #37 werd toegewezen aan Nick Cassidy, die daarmee de overstap maakte naar het nieuwe fabrieksteam van Citroën. De eerste race van dit programma viel laat in het kalenderjaar, met de seizoensopener in São Paulo op 06-12-2025, waardoor #37 in 2025 vooral staat voor de startfase van een nieuw project en de eerste publieke meters onder raceomstandigheden.
De Citroën Racing-auto wordt binnen Formula E gebouwd volgens het Gen3/Gen3 Evo-concept, waarin een groot deel van het basisplatform is gestandaardiseerd, maar waarin de aandrijflijn, software en energie-aanpak het verschil maken. Citroën positioneerde zijn techniek nadrukkelijk als een Stellantis Motorsport-project, met focus op efficiënte energieregeneratie, stabiele temperaturen en het consequent halen van doelverbruik per ronde. Voor Cassidy betekende dat een auto die niet “op piekvermogen” wordt gereden, maar op timing, tractie op straatcircuits en het slim gebruiken van racefases met neutralisaties.
In sportief opzicht was #37 meteen een belangrijk ijkpunt omdat Cassidy niet werd gehaald voor een leerjaar, maar om direct prestaties te leveren en de ontwikkeling te versnellen. Met een nieuw team ligt de nadruk in de eerste races vaak op het aanleren van werkprocessen: afstelling binnen het beperkte testkader, foutloze kwalificatie, en een raceplan dat Attack Mode, energieverbruik en bandenconditie met elkaar laat kloppen. Zo werd de Citroën Racing #37 in 2025 vooral het startnummer waarmee het merk zijn eerste hoofdstuk in Formule E opende.
