De Arrows A6 met startnummer 30 van Thierry Boutsen reed de Grand Prix van Nederland 1983 op Circuit Zandvoort, op 28 augustus 1983. In een kwalificatieveld met kleine tijdverschillen zette Boutsen de auto op de 21e startplaats, waardoor de race vanaf het middenveld moest worden opgebouwd. Voor Arrows betekende Zandvoort een test van balans en tractie, omdat het circuit vooral vraagt om stabiliteit in doordraaiers en een auto die zich voorspelbaar laat plaatsen in verkeer.
Technisch was de A6 een klassieke DFV-auto: een Ford Cosworth DFV V8 als dragend element in het chassis, gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde versnellingsbak. Dat pakket leverde bruikbaar vermogen en een relatief gunstige gewichtsverdeling, maar vroeg op Zandvoort om een afstelling die banden en remmen spaarde in de lange bochten. De opdracht was constant rijden en kansen pakken wanneer anderen tijd verloren.
In de race bleef Boutsen lang in het gevecht en werd hij uiteindelijk als 14e geklasseerd, maar zonder de finish te halen. Na 65 ronden moest de #30 uitvallen met motorproblemen, in een wedstrijd waarin ook meerdere andere auto’s niet aan de eindstreep kwamen. Vooraan won René Arnoux voor Ferrari, vóór Alain Prost en Jacques Laffite, terwijl in het middenveld vooral betrouwbaarheid het verschil maakte.
