De Jaguar XK 120 C (C-Type) #20 van Roger Laurent en Charles de Tornaco startte in de 24 uur van Le Mans 1953 als inschrijving van Ecurie Francorchamps. In een editie die op 13 en 14 juni werd verreden en werd gewonnen door de Jaguar-fabrieksauto #18 van Tony Rolt en Duncan Hamilton, hield startnummer 20 zich uit de problemen en reed de race uit. Na 24 uur stond de C-Type #20 als negende algemeen geklasseerd met 275 ronden, als beste niet-fabrieks-Jaguar in de uitslag.
De C-Type was gebaseerd op Jaguars 3,4-liter zescilinder-in-lijn (XK) en stond in Le Mans-trim bekend om een combinatie van bruikbaar vermogen en uithoudingsvermogen. In 1953 zette Jaguar bovendien schijfremmen van Dunlop in, een belangrijke stap omdat remprestaties bij nacht en in verkeer constanter bleven dan bij trommelremmen. Voor een private inschrijving als Ecurie Francorchamps was dat pakket vooral interessant vanwege voorspelbaarheid over lange stints en een stabiel tempo, zonder de auto structureel te overbelasten.
De negende plaats van #20 past in het beeld van 1953 als race van betrouwbaarheid en discipline, met een hoge uitval bij meerdere merken. Laurent en de Tornaco reden geen aanval op de kop, maar leverden wel een volledige etmaalprestatie af op het Circuit de la Sarthe. Daarmee werd hun resultaat onderdeel van een opvallend sterk Jaguar-jaar, met drie fabrieks-C-Types in de top vier en een private C-Type die de top tien completeerde.
