De Jaguar XK 120 C (C-Type) #17 van Stirling Moss en Peter Walker reed in 1953 de 24 uur van Le Mans als fabrieksteamauto van Jaguar Cars Ltd. De race vond plaats op 13 en 14 juni 1953 en eindigde voor startnummer 17 op de tweede plaats algemeen, met 300 ronden. De winnende auto was de Jaguar C-Type #18 van Duncan Hamilton en Tony Rolt, die 304 ronden aflegden.
De C-Type #17 gebruikte Jaguars 3,4-liter zes-in-lijn (XK) met drie Weber-carburateurs. In deze Le Mans-specificatie werd het vermogen doorgaans rond 218 tot 220 pk opgegeven. Het concept draaide om constante kruissnelheid en betrouwbare thermische huishouding, met een lage en gestroomlijnde carrosserie die op de Hunaudières (Mulsanne) zijn voordeel liet zien.
Een technisch onderscheid in 1953 was de toepassing van Dunlop schijfremmen, voor het eerst in Le Mans ingezet door Jaguar. Dat leverde een duidelijke winst op in remstabiliteit en remconsistentie, vooral in verkeer en in de nacht. In de race zelf reed de #17 lange tijd in de voorhoede, maar een pitstop voor een vervuilde brandstoffilter kostte tijd en zette de auto op achterstand ten opzichte van de zusterauto #18.
Na 24 uur kwam de #17 alsnog als tweede over de streep, vier ronden achter de winnaars. Daarmee werd Jaguars fabrieksoptreden in 1953 een 1-2, met de C-Type als maatstaf voor de combinatie van aerodynamische efficiëntie, een sterk doorontwikkelde XK-motor en de doorbraak van schijfremmen in langeafstandsraces.
