Tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans in 1985 verscheen onder startnummer 18 een Porsche 956B aan de start, ingezet door het team Brun Motorsport. De wagen werd bestuurd door de Italiaan Massimo Sigala, de Argentijn Oscar Larrauri en landgenoot Gabriele Tarquini. De race vond plaats op 15 en 16 juni 1985 op het Circuit de la Sarthe. De auto kwam uit in de Groep C-klasse, waarin Porsche met de 956 en 962 toonaangevend was.
De Porsche 956B beschikte over een 2,65-liter zescilinder boxermotor met dubbele turbo, gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde vijfversnellingsbak. Het aluminium monocoque chassis zorgde voor een laag gewicht en hoge torsiestijfheid. Dankzij een geavanceerde aerodynamica bereikte de wagen op het rechte stuk van Mulsanne snelheden boven de 350 km/u. Dit maakte de 956 tot een van de succesvolste prototypes uit die periode.
De bemanning van auto #18 kende een degelijke openingsfase, maar moest na 323 ronden opgeven wegens motorproblemen. Daarmee eindigde hun deelname voortijdig. Voor Gabriele Tarquini was het zijn debuut op Le Mans, voordat hij later bekend werd in de Formule 1 en als toerwagenkampioen.
