Tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans in 1985 verscheen de Porsche 956 met startnummer 8 aan de start onder inschrijving van John Fitzpatrick Racing. De wagen werd bestuurd door Paul Belmondo, Mauricio de Narváez en Kenper Miller. Het team reed met een klantversie van de 956, een wagen die bekendstond om zijn prestaties in het Group C-tijdperk.
De Porsche 956 was uitgerust met een 2.65 liter zescilinder boxermotor met dubbele turbo, goed voor circa 620 pk. Deze krachtbron was gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde vijfversnellingsbak. Door de lage carrosserie, grondeffecttechniek en efficiënte aerodynamica was de wagen uitermate geschikt voor langeafstandsraces als Le Mans.
Het trio wist 277 ronden te voltooien voordat de auto betrokken raakte bij een ongeval. De schade maakte verdere deelname onmogelijk, waarmee het team voortijdig moest opgeven. Tot het moment van uitval reed de auto een stabiele race tussen sterkere fabrieksdeelnemers.
