Tijdens de 24 Uur van Spa-Francorchamps in 1987 verscheen de BMW 635 CSi met startnummer 18 aan de start namens het Belgische team Waterloo Motors/Lease Plan. De wagen werd ingeschreven met vier rijders, waaronder ook Pascal Witmeur. Uiteindelijk werd de race echter alleen verreden door Marc Duez, Philippe Verellen en Raijmond van Hove. Het team behaalde een knappe achtste plaats algemeen, ondanks zware concurrentie van moderne Groep A-machines.

De BMW 635 CSi was voorzien van een atmosferische 3.5-liter zescilinder lijnmotor. Deze motor leverde niet alleen veel koppel, maar stond ook bekend om zijn betrouwbaarheid tijdens langeafstandsraces. Waterloo Motors/Lease Plan had de auto aangepast volgens het Groep A-reglement met verbeterde remmen, aangepaste vering en extra koeling. Ondanks de verouderde basis van het model wist de wagen competitief te blijven gedurende de volledige raceafstand.

Door constante rondetijden, goed getimede pitstops en foutloos werk van de rijders kon de #18 BMW profiteren van uitvalbeurten bij snellere tegenstanders. De ervaring van Duez en het strakke teamwerk met Verellen en Van Hove bleken doorslaggevend. Pascal Witmeur maakte deel uit van de oorspronkelijke opstelling maar kwam uiteindelijk niet in actie tijdens de race.

Spark brengt dit model in schaal 1:43 op de markt als eerbetoon aan deze Belgische deelname. De uitvoering bevat correcte belettering, teamlogo’s en kleurstelling zoals gebruikt tijdens de 1987-editie. Dit model is bijzonder interessant voor verzamelaars van Groep A-racewagens en voor liefhebbers van Belgische autosportgeschiedenis.
