Tijdens de 2024 editie van de Macau Grand Prix behaalde Maro Engel een indrukwekkende overwinning in de FIA GT World Cup. Rijdend voor Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing in de #130 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, wist Engel zijn vierde zege op het uitdagende stratencircuit van Macau te behalen. Deze overwinning markeerde tevens de negende GT3-overwinning voor Mercedes-AMG op het Guia Circuit.
De race begon onder natte omstandigheden, met vijf ronden achter de safety car vanwege de regen. Na de herstart ontstond een spannende strijd tussen Raffaele Marciello (BMW), Antonio Fuoco (Ferrari) en Engel. Engel profiteerde van een incident tussen Marciello en Fuoco in de slotfase, waardoor hij de leiding kon overnemen en uiteindelijk als eerste over de finish kwam. Ondanks een tijdstraf van vijf seconden voor een eerdere aanrijding met Dries Vanthoor, behield Engel voldoende voorsprong om de overwinning veilig te stellen.
De #130 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, bestuurd door Engel, droeg een speciale livery ter ere van het 130-jarig jubileum van Mercedes-Benz in de autosport. Deze overwinning benadrukte niet alleen Engels vaardigheid, maar ook de technische superioriteit van het voertuig en het strategisch inzicht van Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing.
