De Zwitserse Grand Prix van 1982 vond plaats op het circuit van Dijon-Prenois in Frankrijk, aangezien autoraces in Zwitserland verboden waren sinds 1955. Williams Grand Prix Engineering verscheen aan de start met de FW08, bestuurd door Keke Rosberg. De Fin reed met startnummer 6 en wist de race op overtuigende wijze te winnen. Deze overwinning bleek essentieel in zijn succesvolle jacht op het wereldkampioenschap.
De Williams FW08 beschikte over een 3,0 liter Ford Cosworth DFV V8-motor, bekend om zijn betrouwbaarheid en lineaire vermogensafgifte.
