De Franse Grand Prix van 1993 op Magny-Cours werd een droomrace voor Alain Prost. Voor eigen publiek reed hij zijn Williams FW15C vanaf poleposition overtuigend naar de overwinning. Het was zijn zesde zege van het seizoen en een van de meest emotionele, met duizenden Franse fans op de tribunes. Voor Prost was het extra speciaal om juist in Frankrijk zo’n dominante prestatie neer te zetten.
De Williams FW15C, uitgerust met een Renault 3.5 liter V10-motor, stond bekend als een technisch meesterwerk. Dankzij elektronische systemen zoals actieve ophanging, tractiecontrole en een geavanceerde versnellingsbak was de auto zijn tijd ver vooruit.
