Lando Norris behaalde op Silverstone zijn tweede overwinning van het Formule 1-seizoen 2025. In de Britse Grand Prix profiteerde hij van een discutabele tijdstraf voor teamgenoot Oscar Piastri. De McLaren MCL39 liet op het droge asfalt van Northamptonshire een sterk tempo zien en was het hele weekend competitief.
De MCL39 is uitgerust met een Mercedes-krachtbron en kenmerkt zich door een geüpdatete vloer en geoptimaliseerde sidepod-inlaat, die bijdroegen aan het hoge bochtentempo. Norris reed vanaf de derde positie een foutloze race en hield het tempo van de leidende coureurs moeiteloos bij. Piastri, die aanvankelijk op kop lag, kreeg in ronde 42 een vijfsecondenstraf na een vermeend onveilig terugkeren op de baan na contact met George Russell.
McLaren uitte na afloop kritiek op de beslissing, aangezien de beelden geen overduidelijke fout van Piastri lieten zien. De straf veranderde de uitkomst van de race: Norris schoof virtueel op naar de leiding en bleef na de laatste pitstops aan kop.
