Tijdens de 1986-editie van de Swedish Rally nam het team Ford Rallye Sport deel met de Ford RS200, een Groep B-rallywagen die berucht werd om zijn explosieve prestaties en korte carrière. Met startnummer 8 stond het duo Kalle Grundel en Benny Melander aan de start namens het officiële fabrieksteam van Ford. De rally vond plaats in het besneeuwde landschap van Zweden, met uitdagende etappes vol ijs en sneeuwbanken die maximale beheersing en tractie vereisten.
De Ford RS200 werd aangedreven door een centraal geplaatste 1.8-liter viercilinder turbomotor met circa 450 pk, gekoppeld aan vierwielaandrijving. Dankzij het lage gewicht en geavanceerde chassis was de RS200 bijzonder wendbaar op de gladde ondergrond. Het chassis was grotendeels vervaardigd uit composietmaterialen, met een ontwerp dat gericht was op optimale gewichtsverdeling en aerodynamische efficiëntie in rallyomstandigheden.
Kalle Grundel wist met deze wagen een indrukwekkende prestatie neer te zetten door als derde te eindigen in het algemene klassement. Deze podiumplaats was niet alleen zijn beste resultaat in het wereldkampioenschap, maar ook het hoogtepunt voor de RS200 in het WK Rally. De rally werd uiteindelijk gewonnen door Juha Kankkunen in de Peugeot 205 T16.
