Tijdens de Grand Prix van Brazilië 1986 behaalde Nelson Piquet een overtuigende overwinning met de Williams-Honda FW11 met startnummer 6. Voor eigen publiek op het circuit van Jacarepaguá in Rio de Janeiro wist de drievoudig wereldkampioen het seizoen op indrukwekkende wijze te openen. Het Britse team Williams Grand Prix Engineering leverde een technisch sterk pakket, waarmee Piquet de concurrentie van Ayrton Senna en Jacques Laffite wist te verslaan.
Onder de motorkap lag een krachtige V6-turbomotor van Honda, bekend om zijn explosieve vermogen en betrouwbaarheid.
