Tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco in 1971 verscheen Jackie Stewart aan de start met de Tyrrell 003, startnummer 11, uitkomend voor het team van Tyrrell Racing Organisation. Het stratencircuit van Monte Carlo vormde opnieuw het decor voor één van de meest prestigieuze races op de kalender. Stewart kwalificeerde zich op poleposition en wist de race te domineren van start tot finish, waarmee hij zijn tweede overwinning van het seizoen veiligstelde.
De Tyrrell 003 was een evolutie van het 001-model en beschikte over een Ford Cosworth DFV 3.0 liter V8-motor, gekoppeld aan een Hewland versnellingsbak. Het chassis was opgebouwd uit aluminium panelen en had een compact ontwerp dat uitstekend geschikt was voor de krappe bochten van het Monacose circuit.
