In de 24 Uur van Le Mans van 1978 maakte het Braziliaanse team A.S.A. Cachia-Team Pace indruk met hun Porsche 935, startnummer 41. De wagen werd bemand door drie Braziliaanse coureurs: Paulo Gomes, Mário Amaral en Alfredo Guaraná Menezes, die allen hun Le Mans-debuut maakten. Met chassisnummer 930 770 0912 en een opvallende geel-rood-witte kleurstelling, gesponsord door onder andere Mondelo, Total en Center Fabril, startte de auto vanaf de 23e positie op de grid met een kwalificatietijd van 3:59.5.
Tijdens de race toonde de Porsche 935 zijn betrouwbaarheid en snelheid. De wagen legde 329 ronden af, goed voor 4.489,01 kilometer, en behaalde een gemiddelde snelheid van 187,04 km/u. Met een topsnelheid van 309 km/u op het rechte stuk van Mulsanne en een snelste ronde van 4:03.6 eindigde het team op de zevende plaats overall en tweede in de competitieve Group 5-klasse.
De Porsche 935 was uitgerust met een 3,0-liter zescilinder boxermotor met enkele turbo, gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde vijfversnellingsbak. Dit type stond bekend om zijn aerodynamische aanpassingen, brede carrosserie en basis in de Porsche 930 Turbo. De krachtbron leverde circa 600 pk, waarmee de auto hoge snelheden wist te bereiken op het Circuit de la Sarthe.
