De Abu Dhabi Grand Prix van 2025 werd op 7 december verreden op het Yas Marina Circuit en vormde de seizoensfinale van de Formule 1. De race kreeg extra spanning doordat drie coureurs nog kans maakten op de wereldtitel. In heldere omstandigheden en over 58 ronden draaide het vanaf het begin om positie, bandenslijtage en het beperken van tijdverlies bij verkeer op een baan waar inhalen mogelijk is, maar zelden vanzelf gaat.
Auto #1, de Red Bull van Max Verstappen, begon vanaf poleposition en zette de toon in het eerste deel van de race. In de slotfase bleef het tempo constant genoeg om de marge te bewaken, terwijl achter hem het kampioenschap feitelijk werd uitgevochten. Verstappen won, Oscar Piastri werd tweede en Lando Norris finishte als derde. Die derde plaats was voor Norris voldoende om wereldkampioen te worden, waarmee de titelstrijd pas in de laatste race werd beslist.
De uitslag onderstreepte het dubbele verhaal van de avond. Verstappen zette het weekend om in een overwinning na een pole met 1:22.207, terwijl Norris met puntenbeheer en minimale schade het kampioenschap veiligstelde. Reuters meldde daarbij dat Norris in de race een belangrijk moment had in het verkeer en dat een incident met Yuki Tsunoda tot een straf leidde, een detail dat de druk op de kopgroep zichtbaar maakte zonder de podiumvolgorde om te gooien.
Voor Abu Dhabi betekende het opnieuw een finale met grote inzet op Yas Island, met een recordaantal toeschouwers volgens de race-organisatie. Voor de statistieken blijft vooral staan dat auto #1 de race won, maar dat de titel naar McLaren ging doordat Norris precies deed wat nodig was, een podiumplaats en geen fouten.
