De BMW M4 voor modeljaar 2025 (G82) staat in het teken van verfijning binnen een concept dat al bekend is: een compacte coupé met nadruk op balans, tractie en herhaalbare prestaties. In deze jaargang wordt “Performance” in de praktijk vaak gekoppeld aan BMW M Performance Parts, een fabriekstraject waarmee de M4 visueel en functioneel verder richting circuitgebruik wordt gezet zonder dat het een aparte modelvariant wordt.
De kern blijft de 3,0-liter zescilinder-in-lijn met M TwinPower Turbo. Bij de M4 Competition ligt het vermogen in veel markten op 503 pk, en bij de M4 Competition xDrive op 523 pk. Het maximumkoppel bedraagt 479 lb-ft (650 Nm). De aandrijving loopt via een 8-traps M Steptronic automaat, met achterwielaandrijving of vierwielaandrijving afhankelijk van uitvoering.
Het “Performance”-verhaal zit dan vooral in de onderdelen: aerodynamische carbon aanbouwdelen die de auto strakker door de lucht laten snijden, en in het detailwerk rond koeling en luchtgeleiding. BMW noemt onder meer een carbon frontdeel, kleine aerodynamische elementen aan de voorzijde, een carbon luchtuitlaat bij het spatbord, side skirt-aanzetten en achterste winglets. Ook worden een M Performance uitlaatsysteem en een carbon diffuser als onderdelen genoemd, net als gesmede M Performance wielen in 20/21 inch maten.
Daarmee verandert de M4 niet van karakter, maar verschuift het accent. De basis is de combinatie van snelle turborespons, een stevige tractieopbouw en elektronica die veel vrijheid toelaat, terwijl de M Performance Parts vooral de stabiliteit bij hoge snelheid en de visuele “motorsport”-uitstraling versterken. In journalistieke zin blijft het dus vooral een M4 Competition die met fabrieksdelen dichter tegen het circuit aan wordt geduwd, zonder de dagelijkse inzetbaarheid volledig los te laten.
