De Volkswagen T1 Samba is een luxe variant van de eerste generatie Type 2 (T1) bus, bekend als de “Samba-Bus”. Hij werd geproduceerd van 1951 tot 1967, hoofdzakelijk in Hannover. In die periode rolden er bijna 100 000 exemplaren van de band. Dit model heeft een opvallend panoramadak met acht dakraampjes, naast zij- en achterruit, wat in totaal 23 ramen oplevert; vanaf 1963 verviel het achterste hoekraam en ontstond de 21-window-variant.
De Samba werd ontworpen als toerwagen, met extra lichtinval en comfort. Hij had bi-parting deuren aan de zijkant in plaats van een schuifdeur, en een stoffen schuifdak. De carrosserie was vaak tweekleurig, met bovenin (inclusief dak) meestal wit, en een contrasterende kleur onder een sierstrip. Het dashboard was uitgebreider uitgevoerd dan bij de standaard T1; een radio hoorde niet standaard tot de uitrusting, al was er ruimte in het dashboard voor ingebruikname later.
De T1-Samba is vandaag de dag zeer gewild onder verzamelaars vanwege zijn zeldzaamheid en esthetische waarde. In topstaat behalen Samba-bussen bij veilingen en particuliere verkoop regelmatig zes-cijferige bedragen.
