De BMW 858 CSL van Reyn Speed Shop is een restomod-project dat in 2024 ontstond als uniek reinterpretatie van de klassieke BMW 8-serie (E31), ontworpen met een nadruk op kracht, lichtgewicht constructie en rijbeleving. Deze coupé is geen productie-model van BMW zelf, maar een grondig aangepaste versie van de 850CSi uit de jaren negentig, met een aantal technische ingrepen en een nieuw visueel concept van de ontwerper Jon Sibal.
Het bijzondere aan de 858 CSL is de vervanging van de originele V12 door een 5,8-liter V10-motor gebaseerd op de S85-unit uit een latere BMW M5-generatie, gecombineerd met een handgeschakelde zesversnellingsbak. De motor levert naar schatting rond de 630 pk, waardoor de auto significant meer vermogen heeft dan de standaard E31-variant. Tegelijkertijd verkleint Reyn Speed Shop het gewicht door uitgebreide toepassing van koolstofvezel en andere lichte materialen, wat de dynamiek en reactiesnelheid op de weg scherp verhoogt.
Technisch is de 858 CSL verder uitgerust met een vierwegs verstelbare ophanging en Brembo-remmen met koolstof-keramische schijven, terwijl het interieur moderne BMW-componenten zoals instrumenten en besturing behoudt. Elektronische systemen zoals ABS en DSC blijven functioneel, wat de servicebaarheid en dagelijkse bruikbaarheid dichter bij die van een nieuwe auto brengt.
Visueel onderscheidt de 858 CSL zich door aangepaste carrosseriepanelen, bredere spatborden en uitgesproken aerodynamische details die refereren aan de klassieke CSL-traditie.
