Lance Stroll zag zijn Grand Prix van Monaco 2026 eindigen in de vangrail bij bocht 19. De Canadees had zich met de Aston Martin #18 als 22e en laatste gekwalificeerd, maar begon de race vanaf plaats 21 doordat Gabriel Bortoleto vanuit de pitstraat startte. Aston Martin kampte het hele weekend met weinig grip, onderstuur en een auto die volgens Stroll niet voorspelbaar reageerde bij het accelereren en afremmen.
Stroll begon de race op de mediumband en maakte vroeg een pitstop voor de zachte compound. Daarmee koos Aston Martin voor een eenstopstrategie, maar vanaf de achterste regionen leverde die aanpak weinig terreinwinst op. De wedstrijd verliep lange tijd zonder grote positiewisselingen en Stroll bleef achterin het veld rijden. Hij kreeg bovendien een tijdstraf van vijf seconden wegens het herhaaldelijk overschrijden van de baanlimieten.
In de slotfase ging het mis bij bocht 19, de snelle linkerbocht bij Anthony Noghès. Stroll meldde dat de vertraging van de auto niet constant was en raakte de vangrail. Ook het asfalt, dat bij het aanremmen begon los te laten, kan bij het incident een rol hebben gespeeld. Zijn stilgevallen Aston Martin veroorzaakte een safetycar. Kort daarna crashte Charles Leclerc op vrijwel dezelfde plaats, waarna de race met een rode vlag werd stilgelegd om het wegdek te inspecteren.
De AMR26 reed in Monaco met een eenmalige kleurstelling van partner Maaden. Delen van de carrosserie waren afgewerkt met een iriserende folie die afhankelijk van de lichtinval van kleur veranderde. De tinten waren gebaseerd op metalen en mineralen zoals goud, koper, aluminium en ijzer. Voor Stroll bleef de opvallende uitvoering verbonden aan een lastig weekend: laatste in de kwalificatie en uitgevallen na 56 ronden.
