Fernando Alonso behaalde tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco 2026 het eerste kampioenschapspunt van Aston Martin in het seizoen. De Spanjaard kwalificeerde zich als 21e, maar schoof door een pitstart van Gabriel Bortoleto één plaats op en begon de race vanaf de twintigste positie. Op een stratencircuit waar inhalen vrijwel onmogelijk is, vormde een plaats in de top tien vooraf geen realistisch doel. Toch reed Alonso een foutloze wedstrijd en profiteerde hij optimaal van de vele incidenten en tijdstraffen die de race kenmerkten.
Aston Martin verscheen in Monaco met een opvallende speciale kleurstelling. De gebruikelijke donkergroene AMR26 kreeg een iriserende lak die afhankelijk van de lichtinval van kleur veranderde. Het ontwerp, ontwikkeld in samenwerking met hoofdsponsor Maaden, werd niet alleen op de auto's toegepast, maar ook op de racepakken van de coureurs en de teamkleding in de pitstraat.
De wedstrijd verliep chaotisch met een rode vlag, meerdere neutralisaties en verschillende straffen na de finish. Alonso hield zijn Aston Martin uit de problemen en kwam als elfde over de streep. Door de tijdstraffen die na afloop werden uitgedeeld, schoof hij alsnog op naar de tiende plaats. Daarmee behaalde zowel Alonso als Aston Martin het eerste WK-punt van 2026.
De Monaco Grand Prix onderstreepte opnieuw de ervaring van de tweevoudig wereldkampioen. Hoewel de AMR26 het tempo miste om vooraan mee te strijden, bleef Alonso gedurende de hele race foutloos en haalde hij het maximale uit de beschikbare snelheid. In een seizoen waarin Aston Martin wachtte op technische updates, vormde de tiende plaats een welkome opsteker voor het team.
