Team WRT verscheen tijdens de 6 Hours of Imola met de BMW M4 GT3 met startnummer 46 in de nieuwe LMGT3-klasse van het FIA World Endurance Championship. De auto werd bestuurd door Valentino Rossi, Maxime Martin en Ahmad Al Harthy. Voor Rossi betekende het zijn eerste WEC-optreden op Italiaanse bodem, waardoor de BMW #46 veel aandacht trok van de duizenden aanwezige fans op het Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
De BMW M4 GT3 wordt aangedreven door een 3,0-liter zes-in-lijn biturbomotor die, afhankelijk van de Balance of Performance, ongeveer 590 pk levert. De krachtbron is gekoppeld aan een sequentiële zesversnellingsbak en achterwielaandrijving. Met een uitgebreid aerodynamisch pakket, een verstelbare achtervleugel, koolstofvezel carrosseriedelen en een chassis dat is ontwikkeld voor zowel sprint- als enduranceraces, vormt de M4 GT3 de basis van BMW M Motorsport in de internationale GT3-competitie.
De #46 reed in de herkenbare BMW M Motorsport-kleurstelling met een witte voorzijde, zwarte achterzijde en de kenmerkende M-strepen over de carrosserie. Het oranje LMGT3-nummerschild, de gele accenten rond de spiegels en splitter en sponsoren als BMW M Motorsport, WRT, DHL, Monster Energy en Goodyear gaven de auto zijn karakteristieke uitstraling. Op het dak bevond zich het WEC-identificatiepaneel met startnummer 46, specifiek voor de LMGT3-klasse.
De race op Imola werd onder wisselende weersomstandigheden verreden, waardoor strategie en bandenkeuze een belangrijke rol speelden. Team WRT wist zich gedurende de zes uur voortdurend in de strijd om de voorste posities in de LMGT3-klasse te mengen. Voor Rossi betekende het weekend een belangrijk moment in zijn eerste volledige WEC-seizoen, terwijl de samenwerking met Maxime Martin en Ahmad Al Harthy de ontwikkeling van de BMW M4 GT3 binnen het wereldkampioenschap verder vorm gaf.
