Charles Leclerc droeg tijdens de Grand Prix van Japan 2024 op het circuit van Suzuka een speciale helm ter nagedachtenis aan Jules Bianchi. De helm was bedoeld om het tienjarige herdenkingsmoment te markeren van de crash van Bianchi tijdens de Japanse Grand Prix van 2014.
Het ontwerp van de helm bevatte de kernkleuren en het startnummer 17 dat Bianchi voerde. Leclerc zei dat Bianchi voor hem “een zeer speciaal persoon” was en dat zij samen herinneringen deelden die hij nooit zal vergeten. Leclerc had vooraf toestemming gevraagd aan de familie van Bianchi en benadrukte dat de helm bedoeld was om zijn nagedachtenis levend te houden.
De keuze voor deze helm kreeg extra lading omdat Bianchi’s ongeluk zich afspeelde op hetzelfde circuit waar Leclerc zeven jaar later reed. Door deze symboliek werd het geen gewone racehelm, maar een zichtbaar eerbetoon binnen de sport. Leclerc liet weten dat hij met deze helm alsnog de top van het podium wilde bereiken als erkenning aan de invloed die Bianchi had op zijn carrière.
