De Acropolis Rally van 1989 stond bekend om zijn ruwe karakter, met lange gravelproeven, hoge temperaturen en een ondergrond die weinig ruimte liet voor fouten. In dit decor verscheen de Jolly Club Lancia Delta HF Integrale met startnummer 4, bestuurd door Alex Fiorio en genavigeerd door Luigi Pirollo.

De auto betrof de achtkleps Groep A-uitvoering van de Delta Integrale. De latere 16-kleps variant werd pas later in het seizoen geïntroduceerd. De combinatie van een 2,0 liter viercilinder turbomotor en permanente vierwielaandrijving gaf de wagen een duidelijke voorsprong op de zware en losse ondergrond, waar tractie en betrouwbaarheid doorslaggevend waren.

Fiorio en Pirollo kozen voor een gecontroleerde aanpak en bleven uit de problemen op de zwaarste proeven. Dat resulteerde in een derde plaats algemeen, achter de fabrieksinschrijvingen van Lancia. Voor Jolly Club, dat opereerde als semi-officiële formatie, betekende dit opnieuw een competitief resultaat binnen het wereldkampioenschap rally.

De #4 Lancia Delta HF Integrale uit de Acropolis Rally van 1989 vertegenwoordigt daarmee een periode waarin consistentie en mechanische degelijkheid bepalend waren. Het model past binnen de dominante fase van Lancia in het Groep A-tijdperk, waarin ook niet-fabrieksteams structureel voor podiumplaatsen konden strijden.
