De 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible markeerde een belangrijk omslagpunt binnen het Plymouth-gamma. Waar de Fury tussen 1962 en 1964 een middenklasser was geweest, keerde hij in 1965 terug als volwaardige full-size auto op Chrysler’s C-platform. Daarmee kreeg de Sport Fury weer de uitstraling van een grote Amerikaanse open wagen, met een wielbasis van 119 inch en een carrosserie die duidelijk breder en langer oogde dan zijn directe voorgangers.
