De BMW 520i #26 uit 1982 nam deel aan de Spa 24 Hours, een langeafstandsrace die tot de zwaarste in Europa behoort. De wagen werd bestuurd door Thierry Tassin, Jean-Pierre Jarier en Maurice Trintignant. Deze combinatie van ervaren rijders zorgde voor een mix van snelheid en kennis van endurance races. De BMW was uitgerust met een 2.0-liter zescilinder-in-lijn motor, die betrouwbaar genoeg was om de veeleisende 24-uursrace te voltooien.
Thierry Tassin uit België was een specialist in toerwagen- en langeafstandsraces met een solide staat van dienst in verschillende kampioenschappen. Jean-Pierre Jarier, met een achtergrond in Formule 1 en sportwagens, stond bekend om zijn technische rijstijl en consistente rondetijden.
