De Toyota DKR Hilux EVO met startnummer 211 nam in januari 2025 deel aan de Dakar Rally in Saoedi-Arabië. Deze versie werd bestuurd door de Zuid-Afrikaan Henk Lategan, met Brett Cummings als navigator. Het duo kwam uit voor Toyota Gazoo Racing, het fabrieksteam van Toyota dat sinds 2012 actief is in de zware woestijnrally. De Hilux EVO was ontwikkeld volgens het T1+ reglement, met aangepaste vering, grotere wielen en bredere sporen.
De auto was uitgerust met een 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6-benzinemotor die vergelijkbaar is met het blok uit de Toyota Land Cruiser. Deze krachtbron leverde ongeveer 400 pk en een hoog koppel, belangrijk voor de afwisselende en veeleisende etappes in de duinen, rotsen en gravelpistes van de Dakar. De vierwielaandrijving, aangepaste transmissie en onafhankelijke wielophanging droegen bij aan de prestaties onder zware omstandigheden.
Gedurende de rally toonden Lategan en Cummings constante snelheid, al kregen ze in meerdere etappes te maken met kleine mechanische tegenslagen en tijdverlies door navigatiefouten. Ondanks dat wist het duo een plek in de top tien van het algemeen klassement te behalen, een bewijs van hun snelheid en samenwerking.
De #211 Hilux werd gesponsord door Red Bull, Toyota en Eurol Lubricants, met een kenmerkende livery in wit, rood en zwart. De deelname van Lategan en Cummings benadrukte wederom de Zuid-Afrikaanse inbreng binnen het internationale rally-raid veld.
