Bertie Fisher en Austin Frazer brachten de Opel Manta 400 #37 in de Lombard RAC Rally 1984 naar de negende plaats. De Britse WK-ronde werd van 25 tot en met 29 november verreden en telde 56 klassementsproeven over ruim 860 kilometer. Fisher begon buiten de voorste startgroep, maar werkte zich gedurende de rally naar voren. Na vier dagen stond voor de Noord-Ierse rijder en zijn navigator een totaaltijd van 10 uur, 14 minuten en 19 seconden genoteerd, 54 minuten en 31 seconden achter winnaars Ari Vatanen en Terry Harryman in de Peugeot 205 Turbo 16.
De Opel Manta 400 was Opels Groep B-rallyauto en behield een klassieke configuratie met de motor voorin en aandrijving op de achterwielen. De 2.420 cc viercilinder had twee bovenliggende nokkenassen, zestien kleppen en twee dubbele Weber-carburateurs. In wedstrijdspecificatie lag het vermogen rond 275 tot 280 pk. Met een gewicht van ongeveer 960 kilogram bleef de Manta een competitieve keuze op de Britse rallyproeven.
GM Dealer Sport zette tijdens de RAC Rally drie Manta 400's in voor Jimmy McRae, Russell Brookes en Bertie Fisher. Fisher reed samen met zijn vaste navigator Austin Frazer en zijn auto droeg onder meer Shell- en Gold Card-sponsoring. De drie Manta's bereikten alle drie de top tien: Brookes en Mike Broad eindigden als vijfde, McRae en Mike Nicholson als zevende en Fisher en Frazer als negende.
Voor Fisher betekende de RAC Rally opnieuw een resultaat met de Manta 400 in een seizoen waarin hij ook op de Manx International Rally actief was. Daar reed hij eveneens samen met Frazer, maar met startnummer 12 en eindigde het duo als tweede. De Opel Manta 400 #37 is dus specifiek de auto van Fisher en Frazer uit de Lombard RAC Rally van 1984.
